Revaux is the collective name for Ru and Joe Brooks, two brothers from Yorkshire who are beginning to make waves in the UK’s D&B scene.
Their breakthrough track ‘Solidify’ attracted positive support from the likes of DLR, Signal, Phentix, Amoss, Data Transmission and Drum And Bass Arena. Since then, the boys have seen success with releases on Lifestyle, Mindtech, Terabyte and Saucy Music, with frequent spins on Rinse FM, Bassdrive, DNBRadio and more.
Claiming to produce as ‘one brain with four arms’, they’re currently bubbling under the surface of the UK drum & bass scene with a fluid style, dipping between hard-up tech and more melodically inspired tracks. Outside of drum & bass, they’re also exploring hip-hop and a breaks and bassline influenced sound with their Saucy releases, possibly looking to an EP in that style in 2017.
Revaux have enjoyed a spike in notoriety over the past year and are looking forward to getting stuck in further. With some hot collaborations, remixes and original productions already under way for 2017, they are set and ready for a promising career in drum & bass.
Watch out for their debut single Northern Air, dropping on Soulvent on the 28th of April!
Prash Chouhan, otherwise known as Rho, is a 23-year old drum & bass producer currently based in Leeds. After graduating from University last year, where he co-founded the events brand ‘Overground Sessions’, Prash furthered his love for underground dance music by starting his relatively new production alias Rho. He started to dabble in DAWs and music production at the tender of age of 15, and in the last four years of his studies, Rho decided to take things more seriously which went hand-in-hand with running his night. Not tied down to a specific sort of genre, but geared towards harder and jazzy liquid Drum & Bass, Rho is influenced by artists including S.P.Y, Calibre, Break, Lenzman. He first came to our attention with his track ‘Gonna Be’ which was featured on the New Soul EP (SV020), leading to his All Night single (SV023). Now living in London, with recent releases on labels such as Skankandbass and Saucy Records this exciting young DJ & producer is definitely one to watch!
Jaye Balmer AKA Siege MC is a close friend and serious mic-controller, as well as fundamental part of the Soulvent Records family. Hailing from Bristol he represents two of the city’s finest in underground sound purveyors in the form of Alternate & Adaptive. Cutting his teeth early with appearances at events from Hospitality, Liquicity and Med School – he’s fast becoming an experienced MC with a strong knowledge of what it takes to be a a true wordsmith.
Starting over hip-hop in his school days, he soon moved to 170bpm at parties and hosting radio shows. From there, putting on his own parties around the UK, he was booked by UKF performing at the revered Thekla. Peer & close friend to Fred V & Grafix, Jaye’s love of drum & bass is easily explained, hailing from the genre’s second home and with such talented bed fellows – a foray into hosting was always inevitable.
A first-choice pick for Grey Code, Utile and the power-house that is Pola & Bryson, he had his first track feature on their acclaimed debut LP This Time Last Year out on Soulvent last year, with Way Back. Should you require a tasteful hype-man, look no further than this young Bristolian.
In 2009, the Shiny Radio alias was founded by Ilya Shiny. His first album “Грациозно” (Gracefully) was recorded with influences from different performers such as Tricky, Gorillaz, Morcheeba, DJ Krush, Aim and Bonobo. Working with a noted focus on a combination of hip-hop, downtempo and trip-hop coupled with scratching. After 4 of these releases, he decided to switch up the project’s intended sound. In 2013, his ‘Feel The Fire’ EP was released by Dutch label Celsius Recordings. The release got wholly positive reviews and a good reception from both international and Russian listeners. The EP was recorded with the involvement of singer La Kos, who is now a constant participant of the project.
After joining forces, Shiny Radio & La Kos then went onto perform together, sharing line-ups the likes of Goldie, Brookes Brothers and Etherwood to name a few. In 2015 Ilya was invited to host his own show on the American online radio station Digitally Imported. After the warm reception of his show, ‘Shiny’s Good Scene’ dedicated to liquidfunk DnB, he was offered another show dedicated to showcasing the harder subgenres of the scene.
After releases on Silent Audio and Soul Deep Recordings, early 2016 saw Ilya’s first release on Soulvent with Pandas Anthem & Hug (SV019), but there are surely more to follow! We’re huge fans of Shiny’s feel-good style of production, bathed in nostalgia and good vibes and he makes a welcome addition to our ever growing roster of international artists!
