Joining the roster in mid 2017, UK-born, now New Zealand based Maxwell ‘Monika’ Sweeney landed on Soulvent with his debut single Vector. The 26-year old started producing about 8 years ago, after discovering his love for the genre at London’s once super-club Matter – courtesy of a Hospitality event. The near perfection in each set he heard, coupled with the sheer love shown by the crowd inspired a young Max to join this buzzing scene. After acquiring a MacBook and picking up a copy of Logic, he got to work at carving out his own sound. With his influences ranging from Machinedrum to Djrum, Om Unit to Stray the Brit-turned-Kiwi is truly only getting started in his production career.

Monika also hosted the first 12 episodes of the Soulvent Records podcast, bringing his own selections and opinions on the scene to the masses. He also brought variety to his shows by inviting a string of notable names to act as selector. Monika served as the conduit for selections from the likes of Mitekiss, Changing Faces, LQ, Blacklab, Silence Groove and Anastasia.

As well as producing DnB, Max also dabbles in house production under the alias Jesse Bullitt. The unsung Soulvent hero individual landed a track on Med School’s New Blood 014 a few years back, after a string of solid releases on Ingredients Records. Now with releases on Fokuz and Shogun under his belt, alongside a bedrock of releases on Soulvent, including the experimental Fortress EP, Monika is most definitely a name to keep an eye on.
